The drain on the upstairs sink overflowed and water cascaded through the ceiling onto the formal dining room table. This would be a “ho-hum” moment for many home owners, but for Mrs. Ann, this was disastrous. She called me for help.

This is a post where you can come to share what’s on your mind and stay for the conversation (and often music offered). The diarist is on independent time (a schedule of their own) and gets to take a nap when he or she needs (or may wander off and show up later).
Just to let you know, it’s a feature, not a bug.

I am not a master at finishing furniture surfaces (though I had repaired a water ring mark from a coffee tabel for her). The task looked daunting but the internet has tips I used and they worked.
One can remove the moisture that has accumulated under the finish of a piece of furniture with an iron and a dry cloth. The iron must be a non-steaming appliance and set to a medium heat setting. The cloth must be absorbent and smooth textured (old t-shirts are best). Put the cloth over the water stain, and iron lightly. Check to see if the moisture is drawn into the fabric and the wood finish dry and has a “raw wood” appearance.
The next step is to apply the new surface (paste wax in this case). The process for varnish, urethane and polymers would be different.
Time for a break. The wax must dry and be buffed (first by hand and later with a rotary sander and thick polishing pad.
This is the end result of my three hours of work.

Thanks for indulging me while I rambled on. I hope none of you ever need my services and lead accident free lives.
