I was in high school when the Roe v. Wade case was live before going to the Supreme Court. Henry Wade was the Dallas District Attorney (1951-1987), also the prosecutor of Jack Ruby for the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald.
This was before abortions became legal. I had a friend who became pregnant at age 14 and could not turn to her parents for help. Several of her friends jumped in and gave her our lunch money ($2.85/day) for weeks to help pay for the procedure. Meanwhile, we ate a pack of peanut butter crackers and perhaps an apple to keep our stomachs somewhat full.
None of our friends had even middle class parents, much less rich ones. She grew up and is a grandmother today. I don’t EVER want young people to go back to pre-1973 rulings.
