I’m almost never the first person to learn of something of interest, so I rarely have occasion to post other than in a community series. But I have not seen this here today, nor was I expecting to — it’s kind of obscure and, I suppose, incidental.
After Judge Luttig testified before the House January 6 Committee, many, many words were written here about his style of speech. His reason for that style was illuminated by a rec-list diary yesterday, so there’s no mystery there. In the course of all that, some people asserted that the pauses made the remarks hard to follow. That’s why I’m writing.
I don’t know this YouTuber personally; he’s known to the person who sent me the link. What he’s done is painstakingly edit the pauses out of the complete Luttig testimony, so that it flows more like ordinary speech and can hopefully be followed by anyone who was tripped up by the long breaks for any reason.
He posted this before Luttig’s statement about his reasons, so it opens with a couple of minutes of speculation, and a short clip from an earlier interview to illustrate that it’s not typical of the judge’s speech. Actual testimony starts at 3:25 and runs for about 20 minutes; the questions are included.
I hope this will be helpful. The unedited testimony, like all committee proceedings, is available at the committee’s website, january6th.house.gov. [Transcript: maggiejean kindly shared a link to a full transcript of that session at NPR.]
