A question has arisen and I plan to get a definitive answer. What kind of bird is this?
Known = Hummingbird. What species?
Speculation on “identifying markers” have left gaps in a specific answer. I need to get a look at the Gorget of the bird to verify the species. What is a Gorget?
Examples of the species in question.
Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
This is a post where you can come to share what’s on your mind and stay for the conversation (and often music offered). The diarist is on independent time (a schedule of their own) and gets to take a nap when he or she needs (or may wander off and show up later).
Just to let you know, it’s a feature, not a bug.

I needed a lab and this is my solution.
Hummingbird feeder with a perch available
Game camera nearby and aimed at feeder.
The experiment station.
I set up the experiment Thursday morning. I have waited for results and will have to give more time before my report. Until that time comes, have a happy Father’s Day.
