Good morning everyone and welcome to Wednesday’s Morning Open Thread.
Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
I’ve come to think of this post as one where you come for the music and stay for the conversation—so feel free to drop a note. The diarist gets to sleep in if she so desires and can show up long after the post is published. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.

While it may be only Wednesday, this has been a rollercoaster ride so far this week. Ambient high temperatures are consistently at 95°F (35°C) with the heat index in the low 100s (around 40°C) every day since Saturday, with no real relief in sight. Temperatures are predicted to be hovering near 100°F (around 37°C) starting on Friday. Which, even around here, is dangerous to people, pets, and plants. Were these trends showing up in mid-August, I wouldn’t be mentioning them so much—then again we would be acclimated to the heat by then and be living with the knowledge that it’s going to be hellish for a couple weeks and then we go back to normal medium-hellish days.
On top of all of that, work has insane. We have almost three times the amount of work (in dollars) we typically carry during an average summer. Crews are working six-day weeks (regularly the crews work M-Th) and I’ll be pulling seven days a week (only a few hours on Sunday so far) for the foreseeable future. Thing is—and those of you in construction-type industries know what I mean—this is so much better than the alternative.
No matter your weather, though, or your plans for the day, do enjoy them. I’m thankful every day to have a job I enjoy and a family I love. Cheers everyone and have a lovely Wednesday.
