I noticed this morning that in a number of diaries there is a YouTube link, followed by a wide blank space. After seeing it once or twice, I went back to one of my old diaries, which has had a YouTube video in the body of the diary ever since it was published, and yes, it’s missing that video this morning in favor of a one line link.
Okay, YouTube is making a lot more videos only visible when you’re on the site, and more only visible when you’re logged in and an adult qualified to watch them. I can see why, overall, the a link might be substituted for the video itself, though I really don’t follow the reasoning fully.
However, there are two things I want to get a consensus on before I gripe too much;
- Rather than put a full length blank where the video is, could the substitution leave only a single line above and below the link? If nothing else, it looks strange.
- Why is the link not set up to open in a new tab? Especially if the video is pertinent, I want to be able to see how the diary is referring to it, and if it’s music, I want to be able to let it play while I’m reading. Clicking on it and having the diary disappear was no fun at all.
- Yes, I know I can right-click and have the link open in a new tab, but why do I have to? Especially now that the Editor automatically sets up links in a new tab unless you tell it differently?
Grumble, mutter.
