Good morning everyone and welcome to Wednesday’s Morning Open Thread.
Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
I’ve come to think of this post as one where you come for the music and stay for the conversation—so feel free to drop a note. The diarist gets to sleep in if she so desires and can show up long after the post is published. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.

I’m not sure why I chose Queen this morning, but it might reflect the sort of mood I’ve been in. I want something familiar and nostalgic, but with a bit of pick-me-up too.
Summer season has officially started at work. Schools are letting out and we are taking over the facilities (one yesterday and another three by Friday). It will be all hands on deck until the first week of August when the pace returns to normal. It seems every year the superintendents and management look ahead to this time, secretly thinking, how will we ever get this all done?
And as you’d probably guess, it all somehow gets done. A testament to some lofty human drive, I’m sure, but most likely based on the desire for copious amounts of overtime sweetened with the reality that it ends in two months time whether we want it to or not.
I don’t mean to sound cynical—just realistic enough to recognize that I can enjoy my job and still value it mostly for a paycheck. It’s a trade off of my time and abilities for legal tender to pay bills I’d rather not have. But for now, I appreciate the stability of the market and a steady paycheck and will head on in to work this morning with a positive outlook.
