Welcome to what is the 1102nd original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be discussing Bob Good, the sitting U.S. House Representative in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, who was first elected in the 2020 elections after upsetting former Congressman and Bigfoot enthusiast Denver Riggleman. And while in a sane world, Good’s primary challenge would have centered on attacking his oppoent for his weird hobby of writing whole diatribes about the gentialia side of a sasquatch, it wasn’t the fascination with cryptid wang that Good went on the attack about. You see, Bob Good attended Liberty University on a wrestling scholarship once upon a time, and rose to become the Evangelical college’s associate athletic director. And with the hypocritical academy’s concept of Christianity motivating him, Bob Good skewered Denver Riggleman for the unforgivable Republican sin of officiating a gay wedding for two of his aides. Because everyone at Liberty is taught honoring marriage is the most important thing, and that’s why the place was being run by Jerry Falwell Jr., who was not at all a hypocrite about the sanctity of marriage, no sir.
Well, that wasn’t ALL that Bob Good campaigned on, he also hid his assets from his stock portfolio on financial reports until the absolute last minute of the campaign, and giving the red meat to his voting base in the form of blatant and unflinching transphobia.
With Riggleman out of the way, Bob Good continued campaigning for a safely red Congressional seat in Virginia, and won with 52% of the vote over Democratic candidate Cameron Webb in the general election. But Good was not content to have just had the good fortune to have won a Congressional seat, and was chafing at the thought of Donald Trump being forced from power and replaced with Joe Biden. So it was that he embraced “The Big Lie”, which certainly no Evangelical stalwart would bear false witness, right?
This motherf***er came to break the Commandment about bearing false witness for sure on December 14th, 2020. Sure, he opened up by talking about how the election was “stolen” from Donald Trump, but while he was it it, he also caimed that it was a “hoax” and that the media and Democrats conspired to use Covid-19 to “steal the election”, while encouraging the maskless crowd to reject mask mandates. We quote:
“It’s a serious virus, but it’s a virus. It’s not a pandemic. It’s great to see your faces. You get it. You stand up against tyranny.”
The media followed up, and Good started comparing Covid-19 to a car crash, musing that we don’t ban cars because people die in those. To which, smart people noted that things like seat belts exist as a regulatory measure to prevent unnecessary deaths, THE SAME WAY MASKS WOULD.
So what does this freshman lawmaker’s voting record look like? Exactly like you’d expect:
- January 6th, 2021: Bob Good votes for the objection to the electoral college’s votes in the 2020 election, a failure to send any sort of message that he wasn’t intimidated or sympathetic to those who attacked the Capitol to attempt a violent coup.
- January 13th, 2021: Rep. Good votes against the second impeachment of Donald Trump, because the Republican Party no longer feels like they should be accountable for anything, including failed coups that result in the deaths of both their participants and police officers.
- February 4th, 2021: Bob Good votes to keep Marjorie Taylor Greene’s committee assignments, because he wouldn’t want her to be accountable for all the bigoted remarks and conspiracy theories she’s spread online (probably because she’s a kindred spirit).
- February 25th, 2021: Good votes against HR 5, the latest version of the Equality Act, that would provide workplace protections for LGBTQ Americans.
- March 3rd, 2021: Rep. Good votes against HR 1, a bill created to prevent the corruption of money in politics, and protect voter access to the ballot box.
- March 3rd, 2021: Bob Good votes against the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021.
- March 10th, 2021: Good votes against the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, because he feels people deserve to die in poverty during a pandemic.
- March 17th, 2021: Rep. Good is one of 172 Republicans who choose to vote against the re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act, likely because they feel the 2nd Amendment remaining absolute is more important than preventing people with a history of domestic abuse from owning a firearm (which statistics show, makes them more likely to use those firearms against women in their lives).
- March 17th, 2021: Good is one of twelve Republicans who pick a side to have rooted for in the failed coup attempt on 1/6/21 and votes against awarding Congressional gold medals to members of the Capitol Police who bravely defended members of Congress during the attack.
- May 19th, 2021: Bob Good votes against HR 3233, the creation of a commission to investigate the Capitol Attack.
- May 20th, 2021: Good is one of 63 Republicans who vote against the Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act.
- June 15th, 2021: Rep. Good is one of twenty-one Republicans who pick a side to have rooted for in the failed coup attempt on 1/6/21 and votes against awarding Congressional gold medals to members of the Capitol Police who bravely defended members of Congress during the attack.
- July 22nd, 2021: Rep. Good is one of 16 Republicans who vote against HR 3895, the Allies Act, which was passed without his support to raise the amount of visas offered and to expedite their issue to Afghan translators and their families to honor our promise to protect them against the Taliban after U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, thus feeling we should go back on our word and leave them to die.
- October 26th, 2021: On the floor of the house during debate on measures to prevent domestic violence, Bob Good opines that “Nearly everything that plagues our society can be attributed to a failure to follow God’s laws for morality and his rules for and definition of marriage and family.” We should note that this would be the very specific interpretation of God and his laws for morality that this bigoted twit believes.
- November 5th, 2021: Rep. Good votes against HR 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
- March 31st, 2022: Good votes against HR 6833, the Affordable Insulin Now Act, which would limit the cost that drug companies could list insulin at to $35 and make sure no diabetic was priced out of surviving their condition. Bill Johnson would rather they be gouged by pharmaceutical giants and/or die.
- May 18th, 2022: Bob Good is one of 192 Republicans who vote against HR 7790, to create supplemental funding for infant formula (while claiming to be pro- life).
- May 18th, 2022: Rep. Good votes against HR 350, the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, because a plank of the Republican Party is now domestic terror.
- May 19th, 2022: Good votes against HR 7688, a bill which would help prevent gas companies from gouging customers on prices.
So now, we should talk about Bob Good’s experiences with sedition. Yes, he was pushing “The Big Lie” prior to January 6th, 2021, and on the day of the attack, at least two members of his staff were filmed alongside the domestic terrorists who entered the Ellipse at the Capitol, and not in a way that looked like they were just showing up to work that day. And only weeks after the attack, Bob Good spoke at a local event by the “Bedford County Militia” (and remember, “militia” is a nice way of saying “domestic terrorism”), and lamented how unfair it is that people consider the word “militia” a negative thing.
They say when someone shows you who they are, believe them, and we fully believe that Bob Good is a hypocritical, seditious, theocratic lunatic who has no understanding of how politics should work, and the country will be better off figuring that out and putting a boot in his ass at the voting booth sooner, rather than later.
