At least 7 people were killed during a mass shooting in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, Saturday afternoon, law enforcement sources told NBC News.
Another victim was said to be in critical condition, according to the sources.
A man wearing military-style gear entered a Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue shortly after 2:30 p.m. and began firing a rifle, according to law enforcement.
A suspect has been taken into custody, Buffalo police said.
A Buffalo News report lists fatalities at ten people and has more info.
Ten people were killed by a gunman dressed in body armor and armed with a high-powered rifle, while three others were wounded – two of them critically – outside and inside a Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue this afternoon.
A Buffalo police official at the scene and another source close to law enforcement confirmed the massacre at the supermarket.
"It’s like walking onto a horror movie, but everything is real. It is Armageddon-like," said the police official at the scene. "It is so overwhelming."
One of the deceased was a recently retired Buffalo police officer who was working security at the store, both sources said.
The Buffalo News is withholding the retired officer’s identity because it could not be determined if his family had yet been notified.
As many as five bodies were found in the parking lot, the onsite police official said.

Update: From The NY Times —
The suspect, Payton S. Gendron, 18, had driven more than 200 miles to stage the attack, and he livestreamed it as he fired at shoppers and store employees. He was arrested at the store and pleaded not guilty in a brief court appearance.
Around the same time, a manifesto attributed to him appeared online, repeatedly invoking the racist idea that white Americans were at risk of being replaced by people of color. The view is known as “replacement theory” and was once linked to the far-right fringe, but it has become increasingly mainstream.
Among the victims were a security guard and an 86-year-old mother of four who had stopped at the store on her way home from visiting her husband at the nursing home where he lives.
