Hello, all! I have been a Daily Kos reader for several years but only signed up today to be able to share this: a possible strategy to push our Democratic Senators.
In the past few days, I received fundraising emails from both of my Dem Senators(Michigan). I always donate during campaign season, but in an off year like this one I usually just hit delete. And neither is up for reelection in ’22 so I feel no sense of urgency right this minute. This time, however, I paused and thought “You are going to have to EARN my donation this time!” I replied to both emails with this message:
I will be happy — thrilled - to donate to you and Democratic campaign committees once the filibuster is gone and laws are passed that will protect voting rights for all American citizens. Until that is done, nothing will change.
I don’t know...too quid pro quo-ish? Does it matter when we’re only talking about 20 bucks here and there? I’m not wealthy enough (like, at all) to have that kind of an impact. But what if the legions of small donors that add up to big war chests held back and demanded action? Could that make a difference?
Anyway, that’s why I’m here. Just wondering what the kos folks would think and if anyone might do the same.
This morning I read an excellent essay by John Blake at CNN describing how today’s Democrats are on a path to making the same mistakes that caused the downfall of the late 19th century Republicans. Definitely worth a read. In fact, I emailed my Senators again today, as well as Biden and Harris, imploring them to read this and take it to heart.
