Received this e-mail today from John Gregg’s (D. IN) gubernatorial campaign:
Today is Equal Pay Day, which symbolizes how far into 2016 the average American woman would need to work to earn as much as her male colleagues earned in 2015 while doing the same work.
But a woman shouldn't have to work extra days to make up the difference between her paycheck and a man's. Men and women who do equal work deserve equal pay.
And this Equal Pay Day, it's time to do something about it.
Will you join me in the fight for equal pay?
Governor Pence has done almost nothing to level the playing field since he took office -- and the problem has only gotten worse. It's 2016, but Hoosier women make just 75 cents for every dollar made by men doing the same work.
That's not fair to our daughters, our wives, our mothers, and our communities. And our economy won’t achieve its full potential until women earn the same as men for the same work.
As governor, I will work with the public, private and nonprofit sectors to remove the barriers that women face in the workplace -- the barriers that Governor Pence has chosen to ignore. From implementing a pay equity policy in state government and highlighting businesses that join the fight, to giving workers the ability to anonymously report discrimination to state officials, I know we can make the gender wage gap history.
But today, on Equal Pay Day, I'm counting on you to help make it all possible.
Sign my petition if you agree that equal work deserves equal pay.
Thanks for joining me in this fight,
John
