Today our two newest are Daily Kos Emerging Fellows (DKEF) and Daily Kos 20th Anniversary (DKosAt20). Their descriptions are below, and you can use each groupâs homepage link there to see who are the leadership (admins & editors) and the rest of the members (contributors), their most recent original and reblogged diaries and how to make contact. Welcome, new groups!
â Daily Kos Emerging Fellows (DKEF) homepage & diary list
Staff group founded January 21, 2022 by Jessica Sutherland â Tune in here to catch all the work from writers in the Daily Kos Emerging Fellows Program. (From the founding diary HERE):
...designed to introduce and integrate new voices to the Daily Kos Community, and help amplify and develop passionate progressive writers who are new(er) to writing.
I canât wait to introduce the Emerging Fellows to you next month, and hope youâll welcome them with open arms, patience, and interestâjust as you all welcomed me back in 2017.
We read so many applications and writing samples, spent weeks upon weeks doing interviews, and [since] Feb. 1, six writers from around the countryâeach with different lived experiences and backgrounds, interests, and perspectivesâhave been attending workshops and crafting their first stories for Daily Kos, and Iâm confident youâre going to want to follow them all as they add their voice to the important conversations we have here every single day.
The Fellows will be introducing themselves to you over the next two days, and I can only hope youâll be as welcoming to them as you were to me when I wrote my first story in 2017. Iâll be updating this story as each intro goes live, but here are their profiles if you want to get ahead of the game and give them a follow now!...

â Daily Kos 20th Anniversary (DKosAt20) homepage & diary list
Staff group founded February 28, 2022 by peregrine kate â Posts in this group celebrate the first twenty years of news, community, and activism through Daily Kos. Managed by staff.
[From the founding diary HERE:]
For the 20th anniversary of Daily Kos, let's bring back the Koscars!
On May 26, 2002, when Daily Kos was born, kos wrote these seven sentences:
âI am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this countryâs citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
Posted May 26, 2002 12:57 PMâ
That makes 2022 our 20th anniversary year, and we have a lot to celebrate!
What better way to mark this milestone than to ask community members to nominate and vote on memorable highlights and outstanding contributions of the last two decades?
Itâs time to nominate, vote on, and award some Koscars!...

KEY TO GROUP SYMBOLS
🔶 orange diamond = listed in index Where the DailyKosgroups Are: Links to DKâs 290+ Local & Political Groups by State & Beyond, 2011-2021 including candidate and campaign groups at state and local levels.
🔵 blue circle = listed in index ...30+ DK 2020 Presidential Election & Candidate Campaign Groups,How to Follow or Blog to Them, etc
💚 green heart = listed in index of DKâs 205+ Health/Med, Environment/Climate, Rights, Cause/Movement, Heritage/Identity etc & FriendlyOpenThread Grps&Series, 2011 -2022 â friendly open-thread series & groups are great places to ask dk how-to questions and get to know the site.
These index diaries are in continual revision for current & new data, but it does take about a year for a full go-round. Meanwhile, group admins can kosmail to me for corrections (e.g., name-changes, or in case yr group shows as inactive but actually is active now), additions, mergers, info such as whether you âmeetâ on a regular day/time, etc. Please be sure to include in the kosmail a link to yr groupâs homepage (or if yr having trouble finding it, I can help.)

.
To follow a group, click on the homepage link and then, when youâre there, on the FOLLOW GROUP button a little way down the lefthand column of that page.
Youâll also see the list of group admins in case you want to kosmail to one of them, such as to request to join the group, in order to be able to originate diaries with the groupâs name in your by-line, &/or to be able to reblog diaries to the group â both your own diaries (easier than originating diaries at the group) or other appropriate ones you find. Only editors and admins can freely reblog and originate; contributors (the initial-join rank) can only put drafts & diaries into the group queue, and then need to reach an editor or admin for completing the process. Some group admins promote all new members to editor rank right away, if theyâre familiar with the individual kosaks work by then. That kind of policy varies with each group and its aims/purposes.
Only admins can add members, promote, demote, or remove. So, a group with no admins active in DK canât do any of that. But so long as the group has active editors, reblogging can still go on. So, you can click on the name of an active editor in order to request reblogging of an appropriate diary, even if youâre not in the group.
For the most timely response, always send the message to an individual admin or editor, because messages to group donât give ANYONE a new-message alert.

For more diaries in the NewDKGroups series, click here. For more groups listed according to various other criteria moderately chaotic in nature ;-) click on the GROUPS link/button on your own DK4 profile page â itâs just below the space in the middle of DAILY KOS near the top â and for reverse date-order listings then click there on RECENT.
To reach your own DK4 profile page, click on your kosmail/envelope icon at any blogview/DK5 page, and when the system takes you there, look toward the top margin â there it is!
Another way to find groups is to use the siteâs Search function â starting either at a blogview page (top illus.) or at any dk4-type page (lower illus.)
â enter pretty much any kind of topic you hope thereâs a group for, and when you get THIS kind of page, click on the tiny word Groups where the little brown squiggle is showing right below there:
Chances are, there isnât any dk group with the word âsearchâ in itâs original name, but âchessâ or âpoliticalâ or âPWBâ (pooties, woozles, birdies) might be. You can find the Backyard Science group, for example, by putting either of those two words (or possibly both) onto the Contains line. The term you search does have to be in the original group name (some groups change their names, sometimes) because thatâs whatâll be in the groupâs URLs, e.g.
https://www.dailykos.com/blog/Backyard%20Science
The siteâs search engine only can look for whatâs in URLs when hunting for kinds of groups.
So, for example, if you had lost track of Daily Kos Emerging Fellows wand searched to find it again, youâd need to remember that only their initials are in their URL, i.e.
https://www.dailykos.com/groups/DKEF
Okay, thatâs plenty for now. Most of the other diaries in the #NewDKGroups series have some site-tech info like this, some of it fairly repetitive, though. But thereâs 25 of them, spotlighting recently formed groups clear back to 2019 or so, so ya never know, there might be some useful details back there. ;-)
