Today, eclectablog had a diary up about the temporary "saving" of the DIA (and long term issues: Do read the diary). In the comments, I said that the Detroit Institute of Arts is in my top five favorite art museums in the country.
Well, I got to thinking. What are your favorite museums in art, science and et cetera?
Follow me under the fold, I'll give you my list but I'd be interested in seeing yours.
My Favorite Art Museums in the US
1. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
2. The Guggenheim, NYC
3. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston
4. The Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, Michigan
5. The Dominique de Menil Collection, Houston, Texas
The Art Institute of Chicago comes in 6th, and I'm also fond of the Kimbell Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, a gem not to be missed if you're ever in North Texas.
Short List of Foreign Museums
1. The Pushkin Museum, Moscow, Russia
2. The Secession, Vienna, Austria
3. The Louvre, Paris, France
4. The Prado, Madrid, Spain
5. Redpath Museum (Natural History), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
What are your favorite museums you've visited? Let us know, and please, if you can, support the Detroit Institute of Arts and if you're going to Netroots Nation, please plan to visit the DIA while you're there.
