On last week I took a stand for democracy. Well actually a seat!
First off, I want to say thank you to all that helped me get elected 2 years ago. While it has been an honor to serve The People of Florida, it has also been one of the most traumatic experiences of my life as a Black Woman. Having unseated a Democratic incumbent that only cared about herself and doing the bidding of the Republican Party, then a few months later giving birth to a pandemic baby, only to walk into one of the most racist, homophobic, misogynistic state legislatures was A LOT.
Governor DeSantis & the republican controlled Florida legislature have been waging an all-out attack on Florida's Black communities. Last week they went for the jugular by passing an UNCONSTITUTIONAL redistricting map that eliminates TWO Black congressional districts. Not only was the map illegal, but it came from the governor's office. This is unprecedented, because it is the constitutional duty of the legislature to draw the maps.
While I knew these maps would pass, I knew we had to raise the alarm to folks across the state because DeSantis was trying to distract us from his illegal actions. I organized a protest and got into some #GoodTrouble with a peaceful sit-in to highlight the bullying by the governor.

Republicans are calling for my expulsion and arrest. But guess what, if I had to do it again, I would! In the words of Congressman John Lewis, "Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."
Please don't let our act of civil disobedience go in vain. Help us push back against Ron DeSantis and his authoritarian regime. He is not only running for reelection as governor, he’s making a play for the presidency of the United States. Please amplify our message and share to your networks that Ron DeSantis IS BAD for America.
Lastly, the governor and the Republicans are coming after me. I would appreciate it if you could support my campaign by making a donation as I continue this fight. Donate Here
LET'S FLOURISH!
