The “Skunk Ape” is Florida’s version of “Bigfoot”—a giant hairy man-ape that is supposed to live in the swamps of Florida.
The “Skunk Ape Research Headquarters” is a small cheap tourist trap even by Florida standards, but it has some footprint casts, and a display of some snakes and gators. It is run by local resident Dave Shealy, who says he has seen the Skunk Ape four times in the past 50 years, and has photographed it, filmed it, and cast its tracks. He gives monster-hunting tours in the nearby swamps.
Some photos from a visit.
For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently in Florida for the winter.
