From the Arizona Democratic Party with Regards to Voting Rights and Kyrsten Sinema’s actions:
ADP on Voting Rights Legislation
PHOENIX – ADP Chair Raquel Terán released the following statement in response to last night’s voting rights disappointment:
“Late last night, Senator Mark Kelly courageously voted to defend the voting rights of millions of Arizonans. In the face of unprecedented attacks against our right to vote in this state, he fulfilled his promise to Arizonans — not a singular political party — and chose to protect our safe, popular, and longstanding vote-by-mail system.
“Unfortunately, the US Senate failed to protect our democracy that is under attack by Republicans across the country.
“This should not be a partisan issue — the duty to protect our most fundamental right to vote is one that we all share. Despite last night’s outcome, our fight to protect the rights of Arizonans by passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act continues. We were counting on Senator Sinema to fight for Arizona, find a path forward, and protect our democracy, but on this issue she has fallen short. Right now, Arizona is ground-zero for the modern-day fight for voting rights, and we don’t have any time to waste.
“The ADP Executive Board will meet Saturday morning to address previously passed resolutions concerning Senator Sinema.”
So what does that last part mean of previously passed resolutions concerning Senator Sinema?
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED - that the Arizona Democratic Party will closely watch Senator Sinema's votes in the coming weeks and if Senator Sinema, does not vote in favor of Filibusterreform to change the Senate rules in order to allow the passage of The For The People Act -voting rights bill, the John Lewis Voting Rights Bill, and other urgent legislation, for example the PRO ACT, that has already passed by the House and if she votes against the SenateReconciliation Budget Bill, also referred to as the Human Infrastructure Package and theAmerican Families Plan supported by President Biden and the vast majority of Democrats inboth the House and the Senate, and if she continues to delay, disrupt, or votes to gut theReconciliation Package of its necessary funding, then the Arizona Democratic Party StateCommittee will go officially on record and will give Senate Sinema a vote of NO CONFIDENCE.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED - that before the next State Committee Meeting (Jan.2022) the ADP State Committee gives the ADP Chair and the Executive Board the authority andpower, if the conditions of the preceding paragraph are met, to issues a formal letter ofCENSURE to Senator Sinema with the clear understanding she could potentially lose the supportof the ADP in 2024
.Submitted Sept 2nd 2021 for ADP State Committee
They are meeting this Saturday to talk about the above resolution. If you are in Arizona and are a Democrat, you might want to contact anyone in the ADP to let them know how you feel with regards to Kyrsten Sinema.
I know that I have previously stated and agreed with others that we should not give Sinema and Manchin any more attention, but it appears — let me repeat that “appears” — that the ADP is going to at least take some actions against Sinema, which is a lot more than I can say about the Senate Democrats at this point.
IF the ADP does give a vote of “No Confidence” and censure to Sinema, I will heartily applaud them for doing so.
Because of Manchin’s control of the WV so called Democratic Party, you will never see this happen to him. And I want to highlight that difference. The AZ Democratic Party looks to be an actual real state Democratic Party.
But we will have to wait until tomorrow to find out for certain if Sinema will earn this infamous brand from the ADP.
NOTE: I see from the comments that everyone keeps saying, “She doesn’t care.” Yes, I know she won’t care. But it is another sign that her political career is over. Has anyone ever heard of a politician being censured and hit with a no confidence vote and winning a primary for reelection?
“But she will change parties!” is the hue and cry I keep reading. Would it make that big a difference if she did? We are not going to get any other bills passed this. And federal judges only go so far with a reactionary Supreme Court to overturn any lower court rulings. And I think it would be a more clear cut choice to our voters if she did try and switch parties. We could argue that we never had control of the Senate with 51 Republicans.
