Community Content Moderator

Location: Remote within the U.S.

Community Content Moderators are community support staff with the primary responsibility of ensuring that community users’ participation on the site is in accord with the site’s Rules of the Road. Moderators are expected to have detailed knowledge of the Rules and expected to apply them judiciously in order to maintain a safe, secure, positive, and productive environment for site users. Secondary responsibilities include community support tasks at the Help Desk and tasks coordinated with other teams and departments within the organization as assigned.

We are seeking a smart and savvy Community Content Moderator to join our team. This position could require working weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Read stories and comments published on the site and identify problematic content
  • Assess and discuss problematic content and apply corrective warnings and sanctions
  • Remove and mark spam content
  • Monitor and respond to moderation-related Help Desk tickets
  • Address Help Desk tickets related to subscriptions, Action Network / Act Blue issues, and site-related issues (login, password, and basic feature / technical issues)
  • Monitor organizational Slack channel discussions
  • Perform tasks and monitor assigned Reports as enumerated in the Procedure manual
  • Coordinate with the rest of the Community Team and Staff in support of their work

Experience:

  • 2+ years community moderation and engagement experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Daily Kos (site, features, community)
  • Familiarity with team collaboration platforms (Slack, Zoom), productivity applications (Google Docs, Google Calendar), internet search applications and tools, and spreadsheet and database tools

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the site’s Rules of the Road and the site’s unique form of community moderation or strong desire to learn
  • Familiarity with user-end site features or strong desire to learn
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding moderation processes and outcomes; also confidentiality regarding any personally identifiable information observed during moderation and Help Desk duties
  • Focused and productive working remotely in a virtual environment
  • Demonstrated history of positive and productive interactions on the site
  • Ability to work as part of a small team with a deliberative and creative approach to problem solving
  • Capable of responding and acting independently as circumstances require
  • Ability to confront content that may be personally offensive
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skill-set

Salary Range: $45,000-$55,000

We are seeking a Director of Engineering with direct and applicable engineering experience who will lead a smart and motivated team of developers in evolving the Daily Kos stack to a services-oriented architecture. The director of engineering will work closely with the Vice President of Engineering to realize the organization’s goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor Engineering Managers
  • Partner with the Vice President of Engineering to implement strategic vision for the applications team
  • Foster a spirit of collaboration and transparency
  • Effectively communicate technical vision organizationally
  • Collaborate with direct reports and individual contributors to scope, design, and deliver solutions for large, complex challenges in the Daily Kos platform
  • Partner with team members to deliver high quality product releases in suitable time frames
  • Actively participate in architectural planning and implementation
  • Clearly communicate technical issues and tie work to company objectives
  • Design for scale and reliability with the future in mind and do critical R&D
  • Guide team members through persistently debugging the toughest issues through the entire stack regardless of environment, finding root cause or a viable workaround
  • Drive foundational work benefiting their domain and engineering overall
  • De-escalate conflicts and build consensus between team members about technical matters

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of management experience preferably in a 100% remote company
  • At least 5 years building and architecting ruby on rails or react projects
  • Deep knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Strong familiarity of MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, Varnish, and Redis
  • Solid understanding of Linux
  • Experience with large and complex code bases, utilizing API design techniques to help keep code clean and maintainable

  • Deep understanding of modern web application best practices
  • Thought leader highly skilled in making technical decisions, influencing architecture, and prioritization across multiple teams
  • Ability to anticipate technical challenges, explore alternatives and trade-offs thoroughly
  • In-depth understanding of full stack; can navigate and make legacy code maintainable
  • Focused on defining patterns and operational guidelines for your domain
  • Capable of successfully planning and delivering complex, multi-team, or system projects
  • Identifies problems that need to be solved and advocates for their prioritization
  • Able to reduce unneeded complexity
  • Excellent communication skills, primarily in a virtual work environment
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for events or retreats

Salary range: $175,000 - $200,000

Sales Coordinator

Daily Kos is hiring a full-time Sales Coordinator! In this role, you will support the sales team by achieving sales goals and maintaining positive customer relationships. In addition, you’ll spend time on administrative tasks such as managing schedules and ensuring customer satisfaction.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have an entrepreneurial and assertive mindset with the ability to operate in ambiguity. As the Sales Coordinator, you’ll have the opportunity to work on everything from pitch meetings, prospecting new leads, contract negotiation, and helping to build the team’s internal processes.

Our offices are in Oakland, CA and Washington D.C., however, we are open to fully remote applicants.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to sales team in achieving sales targets and outcomes
  • Research potential new business opportunities through in-person events and inbound requests
  • Support SVP of Advertising Strategy in presenting, promoting, and pitching products/services to prospective clients, including participating in meetings with prospective clients
  • Utilize CRM tools to track the progression of sales leads as well as internal team performance
  • Help draft sales materials, including client proposals, marketing documents, and case studies
  • Coordinate pre and post-sales efforts with team members and other departments (i.e., client services and tech)
  • Assists in invoicing and resolving A/R discrepancies and reporting
  • Work with the SVP of Advertising Strategy on additional duties as assigned

Experience:

  • 2 plus years of experience in a fast-paced, client-facing sales, service, or marketing role preferred. Or equivalent experience in the progressive political/non-profit technology space

Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and willingness to work hard
  • Proven ability to self-manage towards defined sales goals and other objectives
  • Capable of building alliances toward common goals
  • Ability to self-manage across departments within a flat organizational structure
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with advertising or digital engagement
  • Established relationships within non-profit/political advocacy organizations and their consultancies is a plus but not required
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Ability to identify and overcome roadblocks with creative solutions
  • Passionate about progressive politics, news, and building an engaged community

Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000
